The start of the 2018/19 Elite League season was a momentous occasion for Steelers Ownership, as the Steelers Shop was introduced to fans for the first time. When Tony Smith met Dom Stokes (Head of SIV Events and Entertainment) to finalise a deal between the two parties to make the FlyDSA arena the Steelers permanent home, plans for a merchandise store were made. When the agreement was made, Owner Tony Smith said: “We are delighted to conclude the negotiations with Dom and his team and look forward to working alongside him in providing the best hockey entertainment on the ice and the best facilities off it for both the players and our fans.” “This is a good deal for the Steelers, a good deal for the Arena and SIV but most of all a good deal for those who come and support us in this great building” All the hard work commenced long before the end of the 2017/18 season, with designs and negotiations starting with various local companies. There were great contributors to helping complete the shop layout, from the mezzanine floor expertly installed by Northern Steel Decking, to the lighting installed by Dan Blair of Ilux Lighting. Our friends at Benchmarx installed the high quality draws and tops to provide ease of access to products, whilst the shops slick signage was supplied by Image Sign Studios. Without the tireless efforts of Michelle and Cheryl, the FlyDSA arena staff and the various other sponsors, the final product would not have been possible. In collaboration with the new Steelers Store at the arena, there is now a new online store that should make purchasing Steelers products much easier. There is now an option to ‘Click+Collect’ that allows supporters to buy from the online store in their seat and pick up their purchase within 20 mintues after the game finishes.
